What traces does the city still bear today? Contrary to popular belief, the tremendous growth of the railway network in the 19th century and the construction of belt lines have sometimes been an obstacle to urbanization. If the stations favor urban development, the railways crossing the city could have played the opposite role, hindering the development of whole districts.
