What has been the impact of the development of the railway on the urban morphology of Brussels?

Title only available in French.

What traces does the city still bear today? Contrary to popular belief, the tremendous growth of the railway network in the 19th century and the construction of belt lines have sometimes been an obstacle to urbanization. If the stations favor urban development, the railways crossing the city could have played the opposite role, hindering the development of whole districts. This richly documented work invites us to explore the past to better understand the face of the contemporary city, through an unprecedented approach at the crossroads of historical, heritage and urbanistic disciplines.
